Walter has composed and produced music for a number of documentaries, including films by filmmakers Ken Burns & Artemis Joukowsky, and Cray Novick. The music ranges from creative contemporary and cross-cultural works to chamber and orchestral pieces.

Defying the Nazis: The Sharps' War
Walter composed some music for the Ken Burns / Artemis Joukowsky film "Defying the Nazis: The Sharps War." A moving portrayal of a New England couple who smuggled hundreds out of WWll Europe. Tom Hanks is the voice of Waitstill Sharp and Marina Goldman is Martha Sharp.

The Genetics of Hope
A touching film about successes in finding a cure for SMA, a formerly deadly disease that has killed mostly infants. Walter composed several pieces for the film and served as an advisor for the overall soundtrack.

Re-evolution: The Cuban Dream
Walter was music producer and composer for the 4 part APT / PBS series “Re-evolution: The Cuban Dream”, an in-depth look at contemporary Cuba and the changes occurring there. He traveled to Cuba to develop portions of the soundtrack with Cuban musicians and worked especially closely with acclaimed songwriter/violinist Tanmy Lopez Moreno. The series examined the lives of musicians, the new entrepreneurs, Cuba’s successful medical system, and other key elements of their changing world.
